When is Sand Dunes Season?

Glamis Sand Dunes Season is primarily between October through March.

(NEED) Flags & Whips

All vehicles shall be equipped with a whip mast and a 6×12 inch red/orange flag. Flags may be of pennant, triangle, square, or rectangular shape. Masts must be securely mounted on the vehicle and extend 8 feet from the ground to the mast tip. Safety flags must be attached within 10 inches of the tip of the whip mast with club or other flags mounted below safety flag or on another whip.

(NEED) Night Rides - Equipment

According to California State law, any off highway vehicle must be equipped with an approved muffler, brakes, and spark arrester. Headlight and taillight are required for operation at night. Tail lights must include at least one red light. Light Whip Flags are highly 

  • Lighted Whips (LED Whips): While not explicitly mandated as lighted, LED whips are widely used and recommended for increased visibility at night. However, flashing red or blue lights are not permitted on any OHV unless signaling an extreme hazard, as they can be confused with emergency vehicle warning lights.

(Recommended) Do I need Paddle Tires?

While it’s not required, it is highly recommended that you have paddle tires. Paddle tires are specifically designed for improved traction and performance. Without paddle tires, you will be placing more work on your machine and most likely won’t be able to go as fast.

Is Glamis Kid Friendly?

Glamis is kid friendly and kids go all the time while loving it. Glamis is primarily for adults, but children are welcome under parental supervision. First Timers – be aware that “adult” activities (drinking, etc) does happen.

Children are required to wear helmets. Car seats and/or bump seats are necessary. Googles and extra blankets are always good to have to include extra snack and water.

What are the rules and regulations for Glamis?

Do I need to wear a helmet at Glamis?
  • Yes, it is required by law to wear a helmet while riding. (Don't forget the kiddos, friends or family either!)
Can we bring animals? (Dogs)

Yes, but they are not allowed to be “free roaming”. 

LEASH LAW. Animals must be kept on a leash not longer than six feet and secured to a fixed object or under the control of a person, or otherwise physically restricted at all times (43 CFR 87365.2-1{c}).

Can my family bring/carry a firearm?

Yes, but you must follow California’s laws for firearms. 

FIREARMS/FIREWORKS. It is unlawful to discharge or use firearms, fireworks or other weapons within the recreation area (43 CFR 8341.1 (d)).
